Trauma, Toxic Stress, and ACEs

We know that perinatal providers are in a unique position to identify and begin to address toxic stresses that affect both mothers and their children. To do that effectively we recommend following the principles of trauma-informed care. Within this trauma-informed approach, we can screen for trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and work with mothers to interrupt the effects of chronic toxic stress.

Trauma-informed care is more effective care and it is essential to screening for and responding to ACEs.
